Project 1: Reading the Contexts of Traditional Streets
For this project, we required to analyze different street in Kuala Lumpur and Malacca. We were assigned to several streets to choose from, to conduct a site study to understand the different factors and viewpoints of a particular street.
Here is compilation of sketches of the Jalan Tokong- Jalan Tukang Besi and a reflective summary of the street and the culture loss.
Throughout this project, I studied and sketched out more on the shophouses, culture, trades, etc with a simple analysis. The study of a traditional street emphasizes on the importance of preserving the traditional aspects and authenticity of a street and culture. This project reflected on the importance of maintaining and preserving the authenticity of a culture and lifestyle in nowadays.
Assignment: Infographic
The assignment requires us to conduct a infographic based on our understanding of vernacular and traditional architecture as discussed in the lectures. I study vernacular architecture of Southeast Asia to reflect my understanding of the history, architecture characteristic, influences and etc.
Throughout this project, I have gain a lot of knowledge regarding vernacular architecture of southeast Asia. I have a depth understanding on the vernacular architecture of southeast Asia. At the same time, I also spent a lot of thought on how to simplify and present so many data and analysis in a simple way.
Project 2: Research in Asian Architecture
In a group of 6, we were assigned to do an in-depth research on a street, extracting the issues that are present in the street and provide solutions and understanding thesis regarding the issue that has arise in that street. We were assigned to proposed a statement solution regarding our topic and after that proceed to the poster and video presentation.
The issues that has happened across the traditional street of Jalan Tokong - Jalan Tukang Besi in Malacca has caused abrupt culture disruption and misinterpreted culture and lifestyle towards the upcoming generation. From this research, we have gained a lot of concerns and thoughts as a part of the society to partake and avoid the misconduct and misinterpretation of culture preservation and conservation.
